Do you remember this?

This incredible Cinema or Picture House that was a significant place of interest in my formative years closed down 27 years ago today in 1999!

There were quite a few cinemas here in the locale borough of Haringey. Still the Coronet (formerly the ABC and originally opened as the Ritz in the 1930s) was one of the most popular.

I can recall a birthday 🎈 where a group of us had gone to see a movie as a fun evening out. So many great movies were viewed here at this cinema. Including when the movie JAWS first premiered in the UK! Which was promoted with the two colour 3D Glasses 🕶️ that were actually state of the art in the 1980s!

Sadly the building was demolished completely in August 1999 and replaced by the Turnpike Lane Bus station.

One of the only few remaining cinemas in this borough is the Muswell Hill Odeon, now owned by Everyman Cinemas 🎥.

Thankfully this particular movie house has been tastefully reconditioned, maintaining most of the original features.

A visit to this venue also was nostalgic and took me way back down memory lane. This place was more significant to me a decade later, in the 1990s. When this was a regular Saturday night at the movies" meeting spot.

We watched many iconic movies that would now be classics. Everyman Cinemas actually have a Throwback Screenings regular feature, where they show vintage hits and retro movies.
